A five year old boy, Sosuke, lives in a small seaside town on the cliff by the sea. One day he finds a mermaid who has run away from her home in the sea. She ends up stranded on the shore and he rescues her from some garbage. Afterwards, Sosuke names her Ponyo and vows to protect her. Using magic, Ponyo transforms into a little girl. She and Sosuke go on many adventures together in the human world. Ponyo's father, who has been looking for his daughter, finds her and calls her home. This film is a return to the early days of Studio Ghibli. Reminiscent of My Neighbor Totoro and Kiki's Delivery Service, this film is the story of discovery, friendship, love and loss. Sure to be another great classic, it’s perfect for the whole family!
